About our Service
Arch has a team of specialist advisers covering investments, pensions, care fees funding and protection.

Arch has developed an investment proposition which we believe can add significant value to our clients’ investment portfolios. We have confidence in this, not because of an overblown belief in our own abilities, but because we involve widely acknowledged expert organisations to carry out all of the vital aspects of the management of our clients’ investment portfolios.
Services include:
  • Comprehensive financial planning
  • Wealth management
  • Inheritance tax planning
  • Retirement planning
  • Pension transfers
  • Long term care fees planning
  • Equity release
Other services
We use the Nucleus Wrap Platform to tidy up our clients investment and pension portfolios

Ideal Clients
Individuals with capital to invest (or existing investments or pension funds). The range is surprisingly wide, ie £20,000 up to around £5m. We can handle such disparity because our investment process is highly structured and carried out by such respected companies as Ibbotson Associates, OBSR and iShares and the Nucleus Wrap carries out automatic rebalancing of clients portfolios.

We also enjoy dealing with small to medium size companies and charities and trustees.
How we Charge
We usually bear the cost of an initial meeting at our office or your home in Surrey, Sussex, Hants, Kent and South London.

The range of fees for our advice is quite wide because of the greatly varying complexity of the projects we are asked to undertake.

Please ask for a copy of our Service Contract.
For a full financial planning review involving tax planning and trust advice the fee could be £3,000 or more. We will tell you if you have to pay VAT.

When you ask us to arrange a product we charge a fee which can usually be paid directly by cheque, or indirectly where we arrange for a product provider to pay us the agreed amount out of the investment or other product.

Personal Information

Background
After an apprenticeship as a machine tool fitter, work as a fitter on the coke ovens at a steel plant and production manager at a pen manufacturing company I found myself out of work.

I started learning how to advise people on aspects of their financial planning in 1970 when I joined Imperial Life Assurance Company of Canada where I spent a very happy 16 years.

I subsequently took a national training job at Crown Life and then helped set up Prime Health (where I was Development Director) followed by Municipal Mutual Life (where I was Director and General Manager of their sales arm, Prosperity Financial Services).

In October 1989 I became a directly regulated IFA trading as Arthur Childs Financial Services. In 2000, together with my daughter Sarah, also by then an IFA and my wife, Mary, a clever financial controller, we formed a partnership still trading in my name.

In July 2003, Arch Financial Planning Limited commenced trading and this is still owned by the three of us with the same advisers, staff and clients as previously.
Family/social
I am very happily married to Mary and we have three lovely daughters who are all married to great men. Sarah is in the family firm as it were and married to Steve, a brilliantly skilled carpenter; Jo and her husband Andy are working for an international charity in Central Asia and Phil is a district nurse in Oxfordshire, married to Tom, a policeman who served in Iraq and Afghanistan as a member of the RAuxAF.
Interests
Mary and I are active in the local Christian community and via Guildford Baptist Church we led the NewFocus Group which meets mainly on a Wednesday morning. This was set up for retired people but has now expanded to include those temporarily out of work or working at home, or indeed anyone who can get to our daytime meetings. We have a range of interesting activities, outings and an annual holiday.

Somewhat more work related I enjoy working with websites (Arch has over 10!) which I look after myself.
