Background
After an apprenticeship as a machine tool fitter, work as a fitter on the coke ovens at a steel plant and production manager at a pen manufacturing company I found myself out of work.
I started learning how to advise people on aspects of their financial planning in 1970 when I joined Imperial Life Assurance Company of Canada where I spent a very happy 16 years.
I subsequently took a national training job at Crown Life and then helped set up Prime Health (where I was Development Director) followed by Municipal Mutual Life (where I was Director and General Manager of their sales arm, Prosperity Financial Services).
In October 1989 I became a directly regulated IFA trading as Arthur Childs Financial Services. In 2000, together with my daughter Sarah, also by then an IFA and my wife, Mary, a clever financial controller, we formed a partnership still trading in my name.
In July 2003, Arch Financial Planning Limited commenced trading and this is still owned by the three of us with the same advisers, staff and clients as previously.
