Swallow Financial Planning LLP is a respected and successful firm of Chartered Financial Planners who:

  • currently consist of 7 team members, with two advisers; 
  • are highly profitable with a long established client bank of high net worth clients;
  • predominately provide “intergenerational wealth management” advice based around successful businesses and individuals;
  • have significant funds under management using platforms;
  • work with clients who are predominately  based in London and the South East;
  • have charged clients on an hourly fee based structure since 1989;
  • maintain fully computerised charging systems;
  • have a house investment style of passive asset allocation.


The specific duties of any new recruit will depend upon their current qualifications and abilities however we are looking in the longer term for an individual who can:

  • Generate new high net worth clients suitable for the business model.
  • Develop existing and new professional connections to generate new client leads.
  • Service existing clients.  This includes answering queries, providing bespoke advice and writing reports tailored to the individual’s needs and requirements.  You will need an in-depth understanding of financial planning, tax planning and investment principles. You will need to be computer literate with a high level of understanding of Excel and Word and other industry software.  Whilst training will be given, you will need to be fluent in the use of latest technology and to be able to undertake administration accurately and quickly where required
  • To have the ability and experience to work on their own initiative with the minimum of direction and support.

With such a small team you may be called upon to do any aspect of the financial planning process including contributing to marketing, all aspects of the client’s administration and personal affairs as well as the more traditional planning, implementation and review of financial plans.

The above are an example of duties for this post; please note that other duties maybe required and these are not excluded simply because they are not itemised.

Position within the Firm:

The firm has a flat structure with all staff reporting to the senior partner.  Any new adviser would be directly responsible to the partner and would be expected to work with the businesses’ other employees on an equal footing.

Longer term a suitable candidate can expect to act as a principle within the firm.


Any applicant must have at least 12 months relevant industry experience and relevant benchmark qualifications (e.g. Financial Planning Certificate, Certificate in Financial Planning, Diploma in Financial Planning, Financial Planning degree etc)

You will need to meet the minimum qualification requirements of the Retail Distribution Review (RDR) by December 2012.  Longer term (within 5 years) you will need to undertake further qualifications to attain Chartered Financial Adviser and CFP status.


Training will depend upon your current level of qualifications.  We expect any individual to work towards their formal qualifications (we pay for all reasonable training needs) and any new individual will have to spend time being inducted into the firms systems and client proposition.

  • ability to communicate effectively with a variety of key contacts both orally and in writing;
  • ability to work without the immediate Senior Partner’s availability;
  • ability to pay attention to detail;
  • ability to manage own time effectively;
  • extensive knowledge of MS Excel and ability to type and use Word, presentations and other Office products;
  • ability to deal effectively with customers.



  • the Chartered Financial Adviser Qualification;
  • the Certified Financial Planner Qualification;
  • extensive knowledge of financial planning, tax planning and investment principles;
  • competent in creating, implementing and reviewing financial plans;
  • ability to analyse  complex situations or problems and implement an appropriate solution;
  • knowledge and ability to use the 1st System;
  • some high net worth clients.


*Self Sustaining

We are almost unique in financial planning terms in that our model is based around hourly charging.  We define “self sustaining” as achieving on a weekly basis a basic production of three times net remuneration in terms of hourly fees.  We use a computerised billing system which enables precise measurement of fees generated, commissions offset and discounts provided.
